The Menu system will be programmed using Dreamweavers Spry Effects or Ajax style effects. Look for the final on this hopefully in about 2 weeks.

Big Doodle…

June 20th, 2008 by Thomas

Big Doodle..

For years I have been doodling in design meetings, in church, at lunch or just about anywhere I am when I have a pen. My doodle of choice has always been a circle that starts in the middle and continues to grow as it goes out just like you do when you start a ball of yarn. So I decided to see how this would do as a piece of art. Doing it on such a large scale is what I have always wanted to do. This took about 12 hours to complete. Interested in purchasing? Email me at beakerben@gmail.com. Price: $995 Size: 3 ft. x 7.5 ft. (All artwork comes with papers of authentication that are sealed and stamped. All artwork is hand delivered in GA, FL, SC, AL, NC, TN, & VA)

Failure #1

March 18th, 2008 by Thomas

Failure #1
of who knows how many. I am sharing everything with you. My sucesses and my failures. I am in the process of painting over this #1 Failure. I plan on keeping track of every painting I discard. This one started of great but I messed it up when I started adding detail to the small tree limbs. I think I am using the wrong brush for detail and I need to do some small stroke studies to help me figure this out. You may look at this and say whats wrong with it, but remember this photo doesn’t show the detail because this painting is 7 feet long. X 3 feet tall. I only have about 3 hours in this one so I will be re-gessoing tomorrow and starting fresh again in a couple of days. Don’t let me fool you I am not taking this easy it is very dicouraging to get so far and then mess it up. It’s not like working on my computer where I have layers and a delete key. But I am not quitting, just putting this down on paper makes me feel better. Ah …… Just breathe. :)

Art and Music:

March 12th, 2008 by Thomas

“It takes 2 to Tango” I think the saying goes. I believe this to be true in Art as well. Every project I have ever approached is always a reflection of the music I listen to. Just about every art class I went through we listened to some kind of music for the 4 hours we painted, etc. I even play music as I design for a client or program a website. I do better work when I listen to music. I can even help set the tone for the design by listening to clasical or rock or Enya or 80’s One hit wonders. My Iphone is loaded with about 40gbs of music to keep me always going. Music has already affected me to write this post. I am listening to Music from the motion picture “Rescue Dawn” by Klaus Badelt. Does music affect your work as much as it does mine?

The Easel is Finished

March 11th, 2008 by Thomas

posted from iPhoneSlide.com
IT’S FINALLY DONE. I started working ok this easel over two months ago and I have just now finished it officially tonight putting on the last rear shelf. I patterned it after Ben Grossers Easel for under a $100 and spent exactly that. However with the help of Free very expensive wood (Brazillian Ipe) from my brother, who is a custom furniture maker, this has turned into a work of art of its very own. I hope to use this for many paintings going forward. Now I know you are all wondering what my first piece will be, I’m not quite sure myself but it will be large that’s for sure so stay tuned. In the meantime enjoy the photos That I have posted of the easel.

The Blood Connection

March 9th, 2008 by Thomas

I have to talk about The Blood Connection tonight because I have been in the midst of a very extensive website redesign for them. It has been sometime since they have redesigned their website and it is in need of a major overhaul. I have actually been working on the design for quit a while, it is not going to be a super creative design but one that is functional and markets the need for blood. If you haven’t given blood in a while you should check out the new website when it launches in about two weeks from the date of the post. Giving blood is an easy, quick, way to help save lives in our community.

I have been looking for a way to control this blog completely by my iPhone. The only problem has been posting photos. Well my props go to iPhoneslide.com. All you do is email a photo to post@iphoneslide.com and wait for a return email. Shabam you get a return email with a link to follow and its that simple. Let me know if you try this service. So until the iPhone comes out with a way to upload directly from the phone then this will be my service of choice.

Easel Update

March 5th, 2008 by Thomas

I have finally completed the easel. It has taken me almost two months of showing up on Sunday afternoons and hammering away at it for a couple of hours at a time. It was well worth it because I am very pleased with outcome. I know I said I would post photos of it as we worked on it but I keep forgetting to take the camera. However I will post some completed photos of it soon. I am getting really anxious to get painting and hope to begin working on my first painting starting some time next week.

An Easel Made of “Ipe”

January 6th, 2008 by Thomas

Epay Easel Photo Day 1DAY 1.

My Brother Bob Moffett told me he was building a deck for the Owner of Anderson Hardwood Flooring out of this amazing and very expensive Brazillian Hardwood Called “Ipe”

Ipe is a very dense, hard wood from South America that resists cupping, splintering and twisting. Also called ironwood, Ipe will not shrink like pressure treated lumber and should last over 25 years.

Well, after the project was over he had some of this material left over and offered to help me build an easel. I believe he wants to see me succeed at doing this and he also loves to build beautiful furniture pieces.

We looked around for plans to build this easel on and decided on Ben Grosser’s Simple Plans for a professional easel. We are in the process of building This and will post more photos as the project continues.
